Butterflies Land Upon

This project was a passion project of mine. Taking inspiration from a gown worn by Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief designed by Edith Head. While watching I had fallen in love with the details of the corseted bodice and how the butterflies on her gown had seemed to lightly land upon the dress so delicately attached. With this inspiration I went to designing in my head a gown that has similar elements to that dawned by Grace Kelly’s character. The bodice itself has 28 origami butterflies hand folded and stitched on cascading down onto the skirt. The butterflies lay on a shadow of hot fixed crystals that spread around. Many layers of lining, boning, and netting make-up the structure of this dress.
